The All Progressives Congress, United States Chapter (APC-USA) has roundly condemned the Nigerian American Coalition for Justice and Democracy (NACJD), labeling it a group of Peter Obi’s followers (the so-called “Obidients”) allegedly masquerading as a non-partisan political action organisation.

Mr. Obi’s emergence as the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) had spawned what keen political analysts have described as a phenomenon rarely seen in Nigerian politics.

Obi’s supporters have subsequently adopted the coinage “Obidients” as a badge of honour to be worn proudly; so also “ObiDatti”, which combines Obi’s surname with one of the many names of his running mate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.

The LP has instituted legal proceedings to dispute the results of the 2023 General Elections, particularly the Presidential Election of February 25, 2023,

In a statement issued in New York, but, which, curiously, bore no signatory’s name, the APC-USA denounced the NACJD and its promoters for circulating a poster and a message on social media about a planned “World Press Conference and Protest” in Washington DC over the outcome of Nigeria’s February 25, 2023, Presidential Election.

The APC-USA condemned the group’s acts as allegedly politically and tribally motivated.

The APC-USA further alleged that the actions of the NACJD are driven by mischief and stupidity.

The APC-USA posited that the Presidential Election on February 25, 2023, was free, fair, and transparent, and that the APC presidential ticket of Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Kashim Shettima was victorious.

The APC-USA denounced one Franklin Ekechukwu for allegedly spreading a false statement regarding the February 25th Presidential Election and misleading the public about letters he and those the party described as his ethnic jingoists reportedly wrote to the White House and the US Congress.

There is no proof, according to the APC-USA, that such letters were prepared, delivered, or acknowledged by the White House or the US Congress.

The APC-USA claimed that the US and several other countries had congratulated the President-elect, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his electoral victory.

According to the APC-USA, the so-called news conference and demonstration purportedly alluded to by the NACJD were allegedly just another attempt by the “Obidients” to defame the Presidential Election’s outcome and the person of Tinubu.

The APC-USA characterised the people behind the so-called NACJD allegedly as bitter losers who were unable to accept the outcome of the Presidential Election.

tHE APC USA questioned why they were not challenging the results of the National Assembly, Governorship, and House of Assembly elections, all of which were handled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The APC-USA said that the NACJD’s planned actions were solely partisan and tribalistic, with the goal of discrediting the Presidential Election and Nigeria in the eyes of the international community, as well as causing disaffection among Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

Members of the APC-USA declared their happiness with the February 25, 2023, Presidential Election, calling it unusual in the country’s history.

The chapter reminded the world that it was the first election in Nigeria in which the sitting President’s party lost the President’s home state, and the Presidential Election’s victor lost his own state, where he had won every election since 1999.

According to the APC-USA, no country in the world has a perfect election, but as long as any alleged infractions do not alter the outcome of the election, the people and courts will not overturn the election.

“Even in the United States, we are not immune to election controversies, disputes, and conflicts, as seen recently in the 2020 Presidential Election,” the statement continued.

The APC-USA advised the general public and credible media outlets to disregard and ignore the so-called World Press Conference and Protest as “another dubious attempt to misrepresent the facts and truth about the February 25th Presidential Election, and continue to cause unnecessary controversies over an election that was widely acclaimed to be free and fair”.

The APC-USA urged the “Obidients” and all Nigerians to work with Tinubu to establish a new Nigeria based on peace, prosperity, justice, and equity.
