Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, says the online report attributed to him that INEC intentionally withheld real-time upload of presidential election results from polling units is “irresponsible and reckless.”

The clarification was made by the minister on Wednesday in Washington, DC, in response to a story published on some online platforms.

He claimed that the report was a deliberate lie twisted by online platforms to service their own selfish interests.

This is reckless and irresponsible writing.

“The truth is that one of the major problems in the political system today is a segment of the media.”

“These are people who simply cannot accept that the Labour Party or the opposition did not win the election.”

“They were convinced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would lose the election.”

“As a result of this, there is nothing you can say or do because they will twist it and make it look like what they want it to look like,” he said.

The minister stated that his remark was unambiguous and that any media platform that twisted it to suit its own interests was wrong.

“What I meant was that there was a technical glitch during the election, and as a result of this, and in order to protect the data, INEC suspended the uploading of the results.”

“INEC immediately formed a technical team to investigate what went wrong and floated another platform,” he said.

“Of course, Premium Times has its own agenda,” Mohammed continued.

“They inserted the word “deliberately” and left out the phrase that it was to protect the data’s sanctity.”

“They make it appear as if INEC deliberately refused to upload the results.”

Mohammed reiterated that the publishing was a dangerous form of journalism.
