On Friday, police in Jigawa recovered the body of a 16-year-old “Almajiri” in the state’s Kiyawa local government region.

Before the cops came, assailants had gorged one of his eyeballs.

DSP Lawan Shiisu, the state police spokeswoman, revealed on Friday that the deceased’s Islamic knowledge teacher, Malam Muhammad Mustafa, reported the incident to the police.

“The complainant reported that one of his students, aged 16, went to a nearby bush to fetch firewood at about 8 a.m. on Friday, but did not return home.

“The student was later found in a pool of his own blood with one of his eyes removed,’’ he stated.

Shiisu went on to say that the youngster was transferred to Dutse General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor.

He also indicated that a manhunt for the offenders has begun.
