Lagos Police Commissioner fires DPO on extortion allegations

Mr Idowu Owohunwa, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, at Okokomaiko Division for alleged extortion of members of the public by his operatives.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesman, confirmed the expulsion in a statement made in Lagos on Saturday.

Hundeyin alleged that the DPO was fired for failing to supervise his operatives.

He further stated that Owohunwa directed that disciplinary action be taken against the DPO and the extortion operations.

He further added that the DPO and the operatives had been summoned to the state police headquarters.

According to reports, police officers detained a cell phone vendor, labeled him a scammer, and forcibly took N100,000 from him.
