Ibrahim Hashimu, a middle-aged man from Bauchi State’s Warji Local Government Area, was beaten to death by four people for stealing a watermelon valued 2,000 naira (N2000).

According to preliminary investigations, the victim, Mr Hashimu, went onto the farm and stole seven pieces of watermelon.

His luck ran out when he was apprehended by the farm owner, who beat him to a pulp with the help of three others.

Once authorities began their investigation into the murder, the four suspects were apprehended.

Aminu Alhassan, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, frowned on the suspects’ actions, saying that instead of reporting the case for proper investigation and prosecution, they took the law into their own hands.

He ordered that the case be sent to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Bauchi for a quiet investigation and promised the people that justice would be done.
