The National narcotic Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted two narcotic consignments bound for the United Arab Emirates, containing ecstasy and skunk.
Mr Femi Babafemi, NDLEA spokesman, said in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja that the interception was carried out by NDLEA officers linked to courier businesses.
Babafemi stated that the ecstasy pills were disguised in a gold wedding gown, and the skunk was hidden in a microcontroller.
This is despite the fact that Kelvin Ogenedoro, a 400-level Marine Engineering student at Niger Delta University in Amassoma, Bayelsa state, has been detained for trading in 600 grams of skunk.
According to Babafemi, the suspect was apprehended at the university’s gate as part of a follow-up operation after the shipment was intercepted in a commercial bus on the Tombia-Amassoma route.
In another event, a notorious drug dealer, Ishaku Emzor (aka Lalas), who was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in jail for drug offenses in 2010, was arrested for drug dealing on Thursday, April 20th.
Babafemi stated that he was apprehended in Hayin Gada, Imburu Numan LGA, while on his way to provide 1.650kg cannabis to an undercover operative.
“His Yellow Press Cub motorcycle used for supplying illicit drugs was recovered from him at the point of arrest.
“Also, a cash of N78,120 suspected to be proceed of the illegal business were also seized from him.
“On the same day in Kaduna, operatives acting on credible intelligence intercepted a truck conveying 110 bags and 200 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa in Zaria.
“The drugs were weighing 1,223kg while the truck driver, Adekunle Olanrewaju, 32, and his assistant, Tunde Jamiu, 20, were arrested, ” he said. (NAN)
