Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 Election, has dismissed a purported audio recording of a phone conversation between him and the Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, as the work of the All Progressives Congress’s endless forgeries.
He said this in response to a viral audio recording of an alleged conversation between him and an important Christian cleric in which he allegedly urged the cleric to rally support for him ahead of the contested election.
Obi, who spoke in Abuja on Sunday through the Head of Obi Datti Media Office, Diran Onifade, said the APC’s desperate bid to seize and maintain power through subterfuge must end.
“It appears the All Progressives Congress’ desperation to grab and retain power through foul means has refused to fade more than a month after they grabbed the election as planned,” he said.
“While we follow the constitutional path to reclaim our mandate, those who have thwarted the wishes of the majority of Nigerians have resorted to deception and endless subterfuge to keep what they know does not belong to them.”
“From the humiliation in Port Harcourt to the drama in the Ibom Air plane, which they staged, they have now moved on to the distribution of a deep fake audio file aimed at inciting religious tension in the country.”
“All of this serves no purpose other than egregious mischief aimed at demarketing Peter Obi.” If the aim was to create a credibility crisis, the ploy failed miserably.
“Peter Obi has long been on record as the only presidential candidate who has urged Nigerians not to vote for him based on religion or tribe.”
“As a result, we will advise our beloved Nigerian people to stay focused on the task of reclaiming the mandate that we know was freely given to Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed through legitimate means.”
“This is more important than expecting those who ran for office on forged credentials, including fake Bishops, to stop faking.” They can’t stop being dishonest because it’s who they are.”
