The collaboration came about through a shared love for African music and a desire to create something that celebrated their passion for the genre. Omawumi is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and actress of Itsekiri origin who was born in the Delta State city of Warri. Her vibrant, funk-laden pop music contains elements of Soul, Jazz, and R&B. Omawumi released her debut album, Wonder Woman, in 2009 through OMA Records. Meanwhile, Yemi Alade is a Nigerian Afropop singer-songwriter who rose to prominence with her breakthrough single ‘Johnny’ in 2014.
