PDP chieftain explains why Orji Kalu cannot lead the Senate

Mao Ohuabunwa, a former senator from Abia North Senatorial District, has spoken out against the Senate Presidency ambitions of Orji Kalu, the present Senate Chief Whip.

Ohuabunwa, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, was said to have expressed his views when appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.

Kalu’s pending case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and previous conviction, according to the legislator, are reasons why he is unfit for the position. He further added that Kalu lacks the necessary qualifications to represent the people of Abia North Senatorial District.

When asked how he would feel if Kalu became Senate President, Ohuabunwa expressed his displeasure, saying, “I will feel terrible because I don’t believe he is competent to represent the Senate.”

“Because he did not win the election, I would not want a Senate President who would be removed tomorrow.” He carries a lot of stuff. He still has an EFCC case pending in court, and he was convicted. He was not released. “I’m curious why the EFCC is still delaying that prosecution.”

It should be noted that Kalu beat incumbent Ohuabunwa in 2019.

In this year’s February 25 election, the former governor was re-elected for a second term. He is one of the candidates for Senate President ahead of the 10th National Assembly’s commencement in June. He asked his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), three weeks ago to zone the job to his district.
