Oladitan Olufunmilayo, 32, was sentenced to 15 years in jail on Tuesday by a Federal High Court in Lagos for trafficking in prohibited narcotics.

The sentence was handed down by Justice Daniel Osiagor after the defendant pled guilty to five charges of trafficking in prohibited drugs brought against her by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The convict was arrested with the prohibited drugs on November 3, 2022, at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc Export Shed at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, during the examination and clearance of cargo bound for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to NDLEA prosecutor Augustine Nwagu.

He stated that seven grams of cocaine, 11 grams of methamphetamine, 52 grams of cannabis sativa, 47 grams of Tramadol 225mg, and 106 grams of Rohypnol were discovered on the offender when she was detained.

According to the prosecutor, the offenses committed violated

Sections 11(b) and 20(1)(a) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004; and are punishable under Section 20(2)(a) of the same Act.

Earlier, during her arraignment, the offender pleaded guilty, and the prosecutor urged the court to convict and sentence her in accordance with the sections of the statutes she was charged with.

Her attorney, Dennis Warri, urged with the court to balance justice and mercy in sentencing her, noting that she is a first-time offender.
Justice Osiagor sentenced the offender to three years in prison on each offense, with a N350, 000 fine and one week in jail on each count.

However, the judge ruled that the jail term be served concurrently.
