Many years after graduating, some Kwara State University Medical Laboratory Science graduates have challenged their delayed mobilization for the National Youth Services Corps.
The graduates bemoaned the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s failure to regularize the programme as they protested the situation with various placards.
One Abubakar Ramatallahi explained that, “I am meant to spend five years studying but already 11 years. That’s a decade and one year. Put yourself in my shoes; when I have no issues with the school, I have not failed a course, and I am yet to be mobilised for NYSC. To serve my nation is now a crime.”
Also, one Surajdeen Issa said, “Over 350 graduates yet to be mobilised for NYSC. We do not have extra years or carry-overs. In fact, this is my fifth year post-graduation and second year post-induction. Yet, I am tagged as an undergraduate. We are tired of waiting; we have lost several job opportunities. We have aged parents and little ones to care for.”
Another affected graduate, Barakah Adeniran, pleaded with Nigerians to “come to our aid. We are tired of waiting; we have been denied several job opportunities because we don’t have NYSC certificate.”
But in a statement on Wednesday, KWASU Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo Sallee, said, “We want to reassure the remaining batch of graduands of Medical Laboratory Science, who have issues of regularisation with JAMB and mobilisation for service that the university has not relented in its effort to get the agencies involved to resolve all the issues.
“The university is in constant contact with both JAMB and the NYSC as the management considers it a duty to ensure that no student is left out.
“Officers of the university in charge of these duties have made the needed submissions to JAMB and NYSC and there is evidence that the matters would be resolved in due course.
“As a world-class university, KWASU takes the welfare of her students seriously and would not jeopardise the future of her graduates.”
