Mr. Drambi Vandi, the trigger-happy Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who shot dead Mrs. Bolanle Raheem, a lawyer, in Ajah, Lagos State, South-West Nigeria, on Christmas Day, appeared before a Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos, Friday, five days after the incidence.
The late Barrister was reportedly pregnant with twins and riding in a Toyota Venza car driven by her husband.
Titi, her elder sister, and their five children were also on board.
On Thursday, Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba met with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to discuss how to handle and serve justice in murder cases in which at least two Lagosians had been killed by officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Lagos State Attorney-General, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), had filed a one-count against Vandi for Mrs. Raheem’s murder.
“That you ASP Drambi Vandi on the 25th day of December 2022, at Ajah Road, along the Lekki Expressway, Lagos, unlawfully killed one Omobolanle Raheem by shooting the deceased in the chest contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015,” the charge sheet read.
The state sought an order to remand the suspect in line with Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos, 2015; an order which the Magistrate, Ms. Adeola Olatunbosun, granted.
The court ordered that the accused be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Correctional Centre, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The Magistrate had, prior to adjourning the case to January 30, 2023, ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, Dr. Jide Martins, for legal advice.
