Muktar Betara, the candidate for Speaker of the Tenth House of Representatives, met with President-elect Bola Tinubu behind closed doors on Tuesday.

Mr Betara, who represents Borno’s federal constituencies of Biu/Bayo/Shani and Kwaya Kusar, has been canvassing support for his speakership bid among party members, parliamentarians-elect, previous lawmakers, and other stakeholders.

This was said by Mr Betara’s campaign media office in Abuja on Wednesday.

“Betara’s campaign and consultation with the president-elect is one of many consultations he has undertaken in the last three months leading up to the June inauguration,” the statement stated. “Betara, who currently chairs the House Appropriations Committee, exchanged warm greetings with the incoming commander-in-chief shortly after some photo sessions.”

According to the statement, “Betara’s consultation visit to the president-elect took place at his new official residence at the Defence House in Abuja, following the latter’s return from vacations and the Muslim lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia.”
