The iconic Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, widely known as the world’s only seven-star rating hotel, has been hit by an Iranian drone, with footage showing flames rising from the property.
The hotel was reportedly hit by a suspected suicide drone, leaving multiple people injured in a major tourist hotspot.
The sail-shaped Burj Al Arab was reportedly struck on Saturday evening, with thick plumes of black smoke seen billowing from the building as flames tore through part of the complex.
Footage shared online showed a large emergency service presence at the scene, with fire crews battling the blaze. Authorities later said the flames had been brought under control.
Earlier in the day, luxury resort Fairmont The Palm was also engulfed in flames after being hit by what appeared to be an Iranian Shahed drone. Black smoke was seen stretching across Dubai’s skyline following the impact.
Dramatic video appeared to show a kamikaze-style drone smashing into the hotel in the upscale Palm Jumeirah district, although conflicting reports suggested the damage may have been caused by missile debris.
Witnesses in the tourist hotspot neighbourhood reported hearing a loud blast before emergency crews descended on the area.
The incidents come after Iran launched a barrage of rockets and drones across the Middle East, vowing revenge following strikes by the US and Israel. US President Donald Trump has pledged to end Tehran’s regime, as tensions push the region towards the brink of a wider war.
A Dubai government spokesperson confirmed: “An incident occurred in a building in the Palm Jumeirah area. Four people were injured and rushed to hospital.” Officials added that the fire is now under control after emergency services responded swiftly.
The UAE said it had intercepted a wave of Iranian drones and missiles as the regional escalation continues.
