AN OPEN LETTER TO THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY, RT HON. SHERIFF OBOREVWORI ON THE APPROVAL OF DR. GREGORY OPUTA AS “OBI” OF ABOH KINGDOM
Sir,
I am directed by the ODUAH-in-Council to write you on the above subject matter and inform you that Aboh Kingdom rejects in it’s totally the approval of Dr. Gregory Oputa as the ” Obi” of Aboh by the Delta State Executive Council under your Chairmanship and thus deassociates it’s self from him as ” King” of Aboh.
It is on record that several letters on Aboh Kingship crisis and the position of the ODUAH-in-Council and the good people of Aboh were duely communicated to the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, copied Ministry of Justice and Directorate of Chieftaincy Affairs. Separate letters on same subject matter were also written to the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolutions, Chief Edwin Uzor, who acted very swiftly and for over two months was on top of the matter and even visited Aboh on fact finding and thereafter advised that Aboh people should maintain absolute peace with a promise that justice will not only be done but would be seen to have been done on the matter.
It was therefore highly surprising and shocking to read from the social media and also hear from Delta State Broadcasting Service ( DBS) Asaba that the Delta State Executive Council has approved the appointment of Dr. Gregory Oputa as ” Obi” of Aboh.
BREAKING: Delta Govt Approves Appointment Of Prof Epiphany Azinge, Dr Greg Oputa As Traditional Rulers https://gallantreporters.com/2024/11/11/breaking-delta-govt-approves-appointment-of-prof-epiphany-azinge-dr-greg-oputa-as-traditional-rulers/
As you may be aware Sir, the process through which Dr. Gregory Oputa claimed to have emerged as ” King” of Aboh were outrightly against Aboh Custom and Tradition, Court Orders and lnjunctions and other abominable acts , most especially the Chalking and Crowning which were done by mere Chiefs, Chuka Obi and Kenneth Odili respectively, instead of the ODUAH who has the absolute right and authority to carry out such functions. The said abominable acts led to the Communique issued by the ODUAH-in-Council and other stakeholders on the 29th of Septembe, 2024.

ABOH KINGSHIP CRISIS:
COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF A GENERAL MEETING OF THE SPIRITUAL HEAD/LEADER OF ABOH KINGDOM ODUAH THOMAS UGBOAKU AGHA, REPRESENTED BY HIS APPOINTED REPRESENTATIVE, CHIEF ENEBELI OGWU AUGUSTINE , OKPALA OGBE OF THE FOUR QUARTERS OF ABOH KINGDOM ( UMUOGWEZI, UMUOJUGBELI, UMU-OSSAI AND UMUOBI), YOUTH PRESIDENT AND STAKEHOLDERS, THE OSHI , WOMEN DELEGATES FROM THE AJIEH NWANYI AND ALL STAKEHOLDERS OF ABOH KINGDOM.
ODUAH Thomas Ugboaku Agha of the Ancient Aboh kingdom on 29th September, 2024 held a meeting with all relevant stakeholders of the kingdom to review and deliberate on recent happenings that have caused turmoil in Aboh Kingdom, thereby jeopardizing its unity. This includes the invassion of ODUAH house by one of the Kingship Aspirants, Greg Oputa with dozens of men in both Police and Federal Hunter uniforms and using one Chucka Obi to forcefully hold the ODUAH to chalk him at gun point and subsequently Crowned himself as Obi of Aboh. Others are Protest and counter-protests in Asaba, threats against certain indigenes, and the intimidation of Aboh elders and chiefs by police.
Key Resolutions
(1) That after thorough investigation and consultations into the events of September 11/9/2024 and 15/9/2024, it was confirmed that none of the candidates vying for the vacant Stool of the Obi of Aboh has been formally Chosen, Chalked or Crowned by the Oduah of Aboh Kingdom who has the absolute right and responsibility of Chalking and Crowning the Obi in line with Aboh customs and traditions.
(2) It was reiterated that Aboh has established customs and traditions, passed down from generations, governing the selection/ crowning of an Obi and that the events of September 11/9/2024, and 15/9/2024 respectively which Greg Oputa claim to have been chalked and Crowned as the Obi of Aboh is a serious violation of Aboh customs and tradition and thus condemned the irresponsible and abominable act of Greg Oputa in the strongest terms.
(3). That Greg Oputa should with immediate effect stop parading himself as the Reverend Obuonwe of Aboh Kingdom, stressing that the so many Abominations committed by Greg Oputa following his desperation to become the Obi of Aboh have been well noted and would be visited at the appropriate time according to Aboh custom and tradition.
(4) That the Reverend Stool of the Obi of Aboh remains vacant as none of the candidates has been Chalked or Crowned the Obi.
(5). That Aboh kingdom remains united under the leadership of ODUAH Thomas Ugboaku Agha and any attempts to divide the kingdom or unlawfully seize the throne of Obi of Aboh against the established protocols, customs, and traditions will not be tolerated at all.
(6) That they appreciate the efforts of Delta State Government in its determination to resolve the matter through the office of the Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor.
(7). That Aboh kingdom as always will remain peacful and law abiding awaiting the outcome of the decision of Delta State Government on the matter.
(8) That this communique once again reaffirms the commitment of all Aboh indigenes to the Integrity and Unity of Aboh Kingdom and the Sanctity of the Stool of the Obi of Aboh Kingdom.
Long live the ODUAH
Long live the Okpala Ogbes.
Long live the Elders and Oshi
Long live Ajieh Nwanyi and all the women.
Long live the Youths
Long live Aboh Kingdom.

Sir, the Aboh people are highly in dilemma and in pain that the Delta State Government despite all the facts and evidences presented to them on black and white still went ahead to approve Dr. Greg Oputa as “King” of Aboh. This is highly unfair ! We therefore appeal most passionately to you, to please use your good office and position to cancel the decision of the State Executive Council and allow Aboh, which have been an ancient Kingdom to use the due process of selecting his Kings in line with her Custom and Tradition to do the needful.
Thanking you for your anticipated cooperation in this regard.
Thanks,
Yours Faithfully,
