Timothy Osadolor, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC), has stated that anyone who dismisses the possibility of Iyorchia Ayu returning to office as the party’s National Chairman “does not know what he is made of.”

On Tuesday, it was stated that Umar Damagum had been named as Ayu’s acting replacement.

This comes just two days after Ayu was banned by his Benue State ward.

Prior to this development, there had been intense demands (since last year) led by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for Ayu to step down so that a Southerner could take over as Chairman of Nigeria’s major opposition party.

The removal of Ayu as chairman is one of the key demands of Wike supporters as a prerequisite for the party to return to peace.

Regardless of Tuesday’s news, Osadolor predicts a comeback for embattled Ayu.

“Ayu will return. It is not a matter of if, but of when. As I stated a few days ago, his suspension from his ward is null and void because the party’s constitution is unambiguous on the subject.

“Only a committee appointed by the PDP’s NEC has the authority to suspend a national officer of the party.” Ayu will demonstrate this in court.

“He simply stepped aside to demonstrate in court that they lack the authority to sanction him as they are attempting,” he explained.
