The Vice-Chancellor, Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, Professor Jeremiah Ojediran, has commended the National Universities Commission (NUC) over the closure of universities for the forthcoming General Elections.
Ojediran made the commendation while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun, South-West Nigeria.
“The decision of the NUC was highly commendable as the institution would have sufficient time to plan for the academic semester while the students would also have the opportunity to exercise their civic right,” Ojediran said, describing the closure of the nation’s universities as a wise decision.
The Vice Chancellor explained that before the NUC’s directive, the Bells University had planned ahead, as the 100 to 300 levels students were all required return home on Friday after finishing their first semester examinations.
“The institution had forecast ahead as it is good and better for students to be with their parents to exercise their votes.
“In addition, some of these students would be going to villages to exercise their civil rights,” he said.
The institution, according to him, would start online lectures during the break for the students.
