Yunusa Ari, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) resident electoral commissioner in Adamawa, has sparked controversy in the state’s governorship race.
The INEC REC declared Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the election winner on Sunday morning.
Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have protested his declaration.
Prior to the suspension of the operation on Saturday night, results from 10 LGAs had been announced, with Binani trailing Ahmadu Fintiri, the incumbent governor and PDP candidate.
The results of the remaining ten LGAs were expected to be compiled by 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The results of governorship elections are traditionally revealed by the state returning officer.
The returning officer for the Adamawa governorship election, Mele Lamido, was not present when Ari declared Binani the winner.
