The crises buffeting what was once touted as Africa’s largest political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is unabating, as its leadership has replaced its suspended National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, with one of his deputies, Ambassador Umar Damagum.
Damagum was the PDP Deputy National Chairman (North).
It was gathered that Damagum will occupy the seat in an acting capacity, pending the determination of the substantive suit restraining Ayu from parading himself as National Chairman.
A Benue High Court sitting in Makurdi on Monday ordered Ayu to step aside following a suit filed by his Igyorov Council Ward in Gboko Local Government Area, Benue State, North-Central Nigeria.
The Ward Executive Committee had earlier suspended Ayu for alleged anti-party activities and failing to pay his membership dues.
