Prophet Solomon Alao, the Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, has advised the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government against arresting Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running partner, Datti Baba-Ahmed.

The preacher stated in his Easter lecture on Sunday that the FG should tread lightly, emphasizing that arresting Peter Obi or Datti will heat up the polity.

Alao encouraged the Federal Government to exercise caution in how it interacts opposition parties and presidential candidates, noting that rather than scaring the opposition with treason, the government should reassure them that they will receive justice in court.

“The Federal Government must tread lightly in dealing with Obi and Datti and refrain from threatening to arrest and prosecute them for treason.” If they do so, I envision a replay of the 1964 scenario, which would be disastrous for the country,” he remarked.

“We haven’t seen enough persuasion and conviction from the government and ruling party to persuade opposition parties and candidates that they will not interfere in the judicial process, and now is the time to do so.”

He, on the other hand, urged Peter Obi’s followers to be careful with their words and what they post on social media in order to avoid making enemies for him.

According to the cleric, Peter Obi supporters, also known as Obidients, should be aware that political agitation has its limits in a democratic system.

President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was instructed by the C&S leader to be gracious in victory.

“They should recognize that the campaign is over and begin dealing with reactions as people who are ready to govern all Nigerians, regardless of their sentiments,” he said.
