On Monday, Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay of the Ikeja High Court, Lagos State, South-West Nigeria, condemned Joseph Ogbu, a domestic servant, to death by hanging for the murder of his employer, Ajoke John, 89, and her daughter, Oreoluwa, in the state.

The Judge ruled that the prosecution had properly proven against the convict the three accusations of armed robbery and murder, which violated sections 222 and 297 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015.

She stated: “He strangled Adejoke and stabbed Oreoluwa to death, and because the defense did not raise an objection to the admissibility of the confessional statement, there is no doubt that the defendant confessed to the crimes.”

“I took into account the evidence of the security guard, an Okada man, one Yahya Ibrahim, the housekeeper, and a Police Inspector.”

“The court is satisfied with the total evidence that established the defendant’s guilt.”

“Because this court has found Joseph Ogbu guilty of these heinous crimes, you are sentenced to death by hanging.”

“May God have mercy on your soul.”
