On Tuesday, a fire destroyed the female students’ hotels at the University of Benin’s (UNIBEN) Ekehuan campus.
According to reports, the inferno destroyed certain university documents and property.
According to a source, the incident, which began at lunchtime, did not result in any fatalities.
While one account claimed that the cause of the fire was unknown, another claimed that it was started by a surge from an electric cooker known as a ‘hot plate’ that one of the female students was using.
The attention of the state’s fire department was attracted to the situation on time, according to the source, and its employees were on the scene to extinguish the fire.
Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, the University’s Public Relations Officer, declined to respond when reached.
The state fire service has yet to respond to the event. (NAN)
