President Muhammadu Buhari has labeled allegations of his having said that he would not hand over power to President-elect Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu as ridiculous and false.
The President’s bared his mind on the matter on Friday in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.
Plans, according to him, were already in place to ensure a smooth handover.
The statement headlined “THE PRESIDENT HAS NEVER SAID THAT HE WILL NOT HAND OVER TO ELECTED TINUBU”, read in part: “The Presidency wishes to denounce as outrageous and fake, and condemns the fake news brigade for attributing and disseminating a false quote to President Muhammadu Buhari.”
the document stated further: “How can you vigorously campaign for someone, vote for him, and then refuse to hand over power to him? This defies belief.”
Mentioning the leading online medium, Sahara Reporters, by name, the statement posited that the media outlet’s “situation is pretty pathetic because their ownership is politically partisan in today’s politics, and in fact a loser in the Presidential Election.”
The Presidency claimed that rather discussing concerns, the medium allegedly continuously promotes lies in the hope that people will accept them as true.
The statement pointed out that “the government is already in the process of transition”, noting: “The Transition Committee, including of representatives from both the outgoing and new administrations, meets almost daily to organise the handover to the Tinubu/Shettima administration. Thirteen committees are working as offshoots of the main committee, some to organise military drills and others to bring President Buhari out. So far, everything is going swimmingly, with no signs of a hiccup.
“As for the President, the Daura community has begun preparations to receive their son back after two terms of eight years of successful administration. He, for one, is looking forward to returning home to enjoy his retirement.”
