Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a consignment of 1,430 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa being conveyed from Ogbese in Ondo State, South-West Nigeria, to Odukpani in Cross River, South-South Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, said that the consignment was allegedly loaded in a truck belonging to a Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) company and heading to Okurikang Okoyong in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River.
Following credible intelligence, according to Babafemi, the movement was monitored for three weeks and upon arrival, 130 bags of cannabis were seized.
The seized drugs allegedly recovered from the LNG truck weighed 1.430 tons, while 13 motorcycles, which were allegedly hired by the cartel to convey the consignment deep into the Odukpani Forest, were impounded.
Babafemi further said that in Kano State in Nigeria’s North-West, four suspects, all-male, namely: Ado Shuaibu, Yahaya Shuaibu, Mamman Sani and Umar Musa Yakubu, were arrested allegedly in connection with 229 blocks of Skunk weighing 131.1kilogrammes.
The NDLEA spokesperson said that, while Musa was arrested on Tuesday, February 7, at Tumfafi village, Kano, the trio of Yahaya and Mamman were nabbed on Saturday, February 11, at Garin Balarabe, Maigatari, Jigawa State, North-West Nigeria.
“Another suspect, Aisha Muhammad, was arrested in Koki area of Kano with 17 kilogrammes cannabis,” he said.
According to him, no fewer than four members of a syndicate allegedly using dispatch motorcycles to distribute illicit drugs in Lekki area of Lagos State, South-West Nigeria, were arrested on Sunday, February 5.
“They include Tijani Hakeem, Eric Maku, Ahmed Jubril and Adobi Chris.
“At the time of their arrest, 1.88 kilogrammes of Loud and assorted paraphernalia were recovered from them,” Babafemi said.
He quoted the NDLEA Chairman, Retired Brigadier-General Buba Marwa, as commending the personnel for their commitment and professionalism towards ridding Nigeria of the menace of illicit drugs.
Marwa, who said that the NDLEA would continue to target any one or group involved in the criminal trade without fear or favour, urged all the personnel across the country to remain unrelenting in the pursuit of the corporate goal.
