Investigations are still ongoing to determine if this Gregory Oputa is the same individual Greg Oputa, who recently declared himself the king of Aboh Kingdom, Delta State, amidst a heated kingship tussle.
The court records, from the Magistrate Court in Kwale, Bendel State, detail that a certain Gregory Oputa, along with others, was allegedly found guilty of multiple offenses, including breaking into St. Mary Magdalene Grammar School, Ashaka, and the residence of Mrs. Lucy Nwose, with stolen items reportedly recovered in their possession.
Additionally, this Gregory Oputa was allegedly convicted of impersonating a Nigerian Navy officer by wearing a full uniform despite being dismissed from service. He reportedly admitted to wearing the uniform to gain respect from police officers and the public, which led to charges of impersonation.
The court allegedly sentenced Oputa and his co-accused to six months imprisonment for each count, with the sentences to run consecutively. Recovered items were reportedly returned to their rightful owners.
These alleged revelations have further complicated the ongoing kingship dispute in Aboh Kingdom, casting serious doubts over the legitimacy of Dr. Greg Oputa’s claim to the throne, especially as traditional leaders and elders continue to challenge his self-declaration as a violation of Aboh customs.
As the kingship dispute intensifies, this development is expected to fuel further resistance, with community members now questioning the integrity of the kingship claimant. Investigations are ongoing to confirm the connection between the ex-convict and the current claimant to the throne.
