OAU speaks out about the death of a student for accused phone theft

Professor Simeon Adebayo Bamire, Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, has formed a committee to investigate the death of a student who was allegedly killed by a mob action.

The student was claimed to have been slain after being accused of stealing a phone.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, informed FrontPage of the school vice-decision chancellor’s in a statement made available to FrontPage.

According to him, the institution had also reported the incident to the police, and an inquiry had commenced.

The institution condemned the killing and warned students not to take the law into their own hands and to report any criminal activity to the police for swift action.

According to the university, the mob’s actions violated both national law and the institution’s regulations.

The institution expressed its condolences to the deceased’s parents, staff, and students, and prayed that God would offer them the strength to bear the loss.
