According to the organizers, more than 10,000 people are anticipated to take part in the first-ever Abuja International Marathon, which will begin at the City Gate on Saturday.

On Friday, race organizer Olukayode Thomas announced that 32 international athletes had already arrived to compete for the spoils.

“These competitors are from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Bahrain.”

“In addition to these, more than 100 Nigerian elite athletes are expected to compete in the race, which begins at 6 a.m.,” he said.

Mr Thomas stated that the tempting offer of $50,000 for the top finishers in the men’s and women’s categories would ensure that the race was hotly contested.

The Abuja International Marathon will include three races: the full marathon (42 kilometers), the School Marathon for schoolchildren (5 kilometers), and the family race (10 kilometers).
