The Lagos State Police Command, Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has roundly condemned Saturday’s attack on some supporters of the Labour Party (LP), passionately appealing to politicians to prevail on their followers to shun violence.
The message came via a statement issued by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin.
Yet-to-be-identified persons allegedly attacked some LP supporters who were on their way to a rally addressed by the party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, on Saturday at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island, Lagos State, South-West Nigeria.
The Police, according to Hundeyin, would leave no stone unturned to deal decisively with offenders in accordance with the law.
He explained that the Police Command has launched an investigation into the attack, with a view to apprehending and prosecuting the suspected attackers.
He added: “Four injured persons were promptly taken for medical attention and are responding to treatment.
“The State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over investigations into the incident from Ilasan Division, which had earlier commenced preliminary investigations.’’
