On April 25, police officers on highway patrol seized four AK-47 firearms from criminals along the Kano-Bauchi road.
SP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, spokesman for the Kano police command, confirmed this on Friday.
He stated that the guns were discovered by a Safer Highway Patrol team during an intelligence-led stop and search operation at Kwanar Garko in the state’s Garko Local Government Area.
“During the operation along Kano-Bauchi road, the vigilant cops observed a Lite-Hiace bus attempting to change direction, with one of its occupants coming down holding a suspicious item.”
“This action drew a quick response from the team, forcing the occupant to drop the item, zoom off, and flee the scene,” a command spokeswoman said.
He went on to say that a search of the sack found four AK-47 rifles.
“Efforts by combined security forces to apprehend fleeing suspects have been stepped up,” Mr Kiyawa said.
According to Mr Kiwaya, the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mu’azu Mohammed, praised the personnel for their efforts.
He asked locals to be more security vigilant and to report suspicious people or goods to the nearest police station.
“They can also report through the command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, 0807609127, and 09029292926,” Mr Kiyawa explained.
