Three suspected members of a land grabbing syndicate terrorizing Gbayunre Village in Ogun State’s Ado odo Ota local government area have been apprehended by Ogun State Police command agents.

Sunday Owoyele, 32, Idowu Ayobami, 32, and Kola Owolabi, 39, were detained on April 4, 2023, in response to a plea by the Dada Gbabi family of Gbayunre Village.

According to the petition, a group of land grabbers led by one Joseph Ayodele assaulted their village with hazardous weapons, chased the family off of their landed property in the Atan Ayunre area, and forcibly took the village.

According to the police command’s spokesman, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Commissioner of Police asked the Deputy Commissioner in-charge of State Criminal Investigation Departments, DCP Babakura Muhammad, to investigate the issue and bring the perpetrator to justice.

In accordance with the CP’s directive, the D.C. dispatched a team of detectives to the scene, where three members of the syndicate were apprehended, while others, including their leader, Ayodele Joseph, who has been on the command’s wanted list in connection with a series of violent land grabbing cases in Ado Odo Ota and its environs, fled.

Kola Owolabi, one of the apprehended suspects, had previously been caught for attempting to steal a riffle from an officer but was overpowered, and he was then charged in court and remanded in jail detention.

Assorted illicit charms and weeds presumed to be Indian hemp were recovered from them.

Meanwhile, the command has charged Ayodele Joseph, the leader of the violent gang, with failing to appear in person at the state Criminal Investigation Departments in Eleweran and Abeokuta.

Failure to report oneself, according to the command, would result in operatives going for him.

The command stated that it would not fold its arms while some unscrupulous elements harmed innocent members of the population.
