BBNaija’s Saga: How my mother’s death caused me to rediscover myself

Former Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) housemate Saga Adeolu has described how the death of his mother caused him to “rediscover” himself.

Saga identified himself as a “mummy’s boy” in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.

According to the reality TV star, his mother’s death left a “big hole” in his life, forcing him to “become his own man.”

“I lost my mum in 2014, life-changing. She was very ill after my 21st birthday. It was 3 months of horror but it made me who I am today,” he said.

“I was a complete mummy’s boy, my mum used to come to my school every weekend and did every birthday. She died while I was in my final year.

“When she left, it gave me the opportunity to be my own man. My father and I had to fight because my mother occupied all the space in my heart.

“My father was actually very good but my mum was just there 100%. She left a very huge vacuum but it really made me my own man because I had to find my feet.

“I left my dad’s house in 2015 to serve, I haven’t spent a night there ever since. I’ve just been on my own doing my own thing.

“Although he has been very supportive, it made me my own man regardless. If my mum didn’t pass, I probably would still be sucking breasts.

“I had to rediscover myself when my mum passed, literally. My mum did everything for me, she was the most active. I didn’t know how to check my results even when I was in school.

“I really had to redefine myself and during that process, I finished school. I didn’t know what I was going to do next so I started painting out of confusion.

“Eventually things started working out, I started becoming more independent and my father now started to understand me better because now he can see me.”
