Benue Killings: Buhari asks security agencies to put an end to “extreme violence”

President Muhammadu Buhari has denounced recent violent attacks in Benue state.

At least 46 persons were slain on Wednesday when gunmen invaded the Umogidi community in Entekpa-Adoka, Otukpo LGA, Benue.

Buhari decried the “use of terrorism” as a weapon for resolving “inter-communal conflict” in a statement signed by presidential spokeswoman Garba Shehu on Saturday.

The president requested that security services increase surveillance and “immediately review security management in affected areas.”

He also expressed condolences to the families of those slain in attacks around the state.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who have been killed.” “The entire nation is united in the fight against terror and evil,” he declared.

The number of killings in Benue state has reached frightening proportions in recent weeks.

Gunmen were claimed to have assaulted the Ikobi hamlet in Apa LGA in February, murdering three people.

In March, as least 50 people were allegedly slain by suspected herders who raided towns in the state’s Kwande LGA.

On Friday night, gunmen stormed an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in the state’s Guma LGA, killing at least 30 people.
