The much-anticipated timeless concert by David “Davido” Adeleke, undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports of all time, was an electrifying music showpiece that further reinforced the lofty height and growth that has defined the Nigerian Music industry in recent years as Nigeria’s premier banking giant, FirstBank, threw its weight behind Davido once again.
The Timeless Concert in Lagos was the culmination of a treble of shows before the release of his fourth studio album, ‘Timeless,’ on March 31, 2023. Davido played at the Irvine Plaza in New York on April 2, 2023, and at the Royal Albert Hall in London on April 5, 2023, prior to the Lagos event.
The 17-track project album topped multiple charts and broke and set numerous records. The Timeless album was recognized as the first African album to reach number one on the US iTunes Albums Chart, which is regarded as the world’s largest music market.
Davido’s Timeless Concert in Lagos was more than just music; it brought together people from all walks of life, regardless of tradition, culture, economic strata, or countries. Fans and music enthusiasts came from all over to the historic Tafawa Balewa Square to show their love and support for Davido, have fun, relax, connect, and reunite.
A play without a well-constructed stage is a no-show because staging encourages engagement and connection between the performers and the audience.
The Timeless stage, the largest in West Africa and the second largest in Africa, was revolutionary in terms of design and aesthetics.
The beauty of the stage was reminiscent of the words of Canadian international bestseller, Yann Marte: “Nature can put on a thrilling show. The stage is vast, the lighting is dramatic, the extras are innumerable, and the budget for special effects is unlimited”.
These words simply described the nature, class, and details used in the construction of the Timeless stage, which was visible during the day before the concert took center stage at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial nerve center.
KieKie and Mr Macaroni, the night’s hosts and famous skit makers and comedians, gave spice to the event, thrilling fans to a more than music experience, whetting their thirst for the evening’s spectacular performance, who else but Davido.
Timeless Concert featured outstanding performances by Asake, Mayorkun, Skiibii, Iyanya, B-Red, Pheelz, Fave, Spyro, Iyanya, and Khaid, among others.
Peruzzi, The Cavemen, Majeeed, Odumodublvck, Starboy Terri, and May D, among many others, provided entertainment throughout the evening.
Davido’s arrival garnered a standing ovation, as fans couldn’t contain their enthusiasm at seeing him play again. The Nigerian music veteran and widely famous music sensation’s two-hour spectacular stage performance captivated his fans with various classical songs from past albums as well as those from his most recent album, Timeless.
Skelewu, Dami Duro, Gobe, Aye, Unavailable, Over Dem All, and Feel were among the tracks played from his earlier and most recent albums.
Electricity, a duet with Pheelz that became a major hit in 2022, was also sung by Davido.
Davido fans may have a sense of déjà vu, as FirstBank was the major sponsor of Davido’s 30 billion event in 2017.
In addition, as part of its yearly DecemberIssaVybe fiesta and associated activities in 2021, the Bank sponsored the ‘A Decade of Davido’ Concert, which was organized to commemorate the Nigerian American pop musician and global music sensation’s ten years of success. Fast forward to the Timeless performance in 2023, the Bank’s regular DecemberIssavybe fiesta, which no sure came a little early, as it is a long trip from this month, April, to December.
