On Thursday, there was palpable tension in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, after a truck transporting convicts to the State High Court collided with a commercial minibus, injuring two people.
The incident prompted immediate violent protest, with commercial motorcyclists and some enraged youths blocking the popular Olaiya Junction.
According to witnesses, the correctional truck driver refused to halt at a traffic light, striking a minibus and injuring the driver and one of the passengers.
As of the time of filing this story, police on the scene had used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
