Sheffield United are back in the Premier League after two seasons in the English second level, after to a 2-0 victory over West Brom in the Sky Bet Championship league game at Bramall Lane on Wednesday night.

With tonight’s win, the Blades, who were relegated from England’s top flight at the end of the 2020/21 season, secured the second and final automatic promotion ticket to the Premier League, joining Burnley, the Championship’s runaway winners, as the two automatically promoted teams.

Following a goalless first half, two second-half goals by Sander Berge in the 58th minute and Anel Ahmedhodzic in the 76th minute clinched the win for Sheffield, bringing Paul Heckingbottom’s team’s season tally to 85 points, seven points ahead of third-placed Luton.

Sheffield United would hold second place even if they lost all of their remaining league fixtures, including the game in hand, with most Championship clubs, including Luton Town, having only two rounds of matches remaining.

Both Luton and fourth-placed Middlesborough, however, are guaranteed playoff positions to determine the last one team to join already promoted teams. Fifth-placed Coventry, sixth-placed Sunderland and all the way to 12th-placed Swansea will fight for the remaining two playoff tickets.
