The Nigerian military service chiefs have relocated to Maiduguri, Borno State, following the directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Specifically, Olufemi Oloyede, chief of defence staff (CDS), and Waidu Shaibu, the chief of army staff (CoAS), arrived the city on Wednesday in a white and red-painted jet at the Maiduguri Air Force base.
They were received by the theatre commander of Operation Hadin Kai, the GOC, and other top military officials.
After mounting the Guard of Honour at the Maimalari Military Cantonment in Maiduguri, the service chiefs went into a closed-door meeting.
Their arrival comes nearly 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu directed security chiefs to relocate to the Borno state capital after the suspected suicide bombing killed 23 persons and injured 108 others, according to the police.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Tinubu mourned those who lost their lives, sympathised with the injured, and expressed solidarity with residents of the state.
“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instill and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres,” the statement reads.
“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be.”
