The Super Falcons continued their preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with a hard-fought victory over Haiti in an international friendly match on Friday.

According to reports, despite a late fight, the Nigerian team won 2-1 over the World Cup debutants in Antalya, Turkey. The win ends a run of six consecutive defeats for the nine-time African champions.

The game was dominated by Nigeria from the start, with FC Barcelona Feminine forward Asisat Oshoala scoring in the 22nd minute, though the goal was disallowed. Esther Okoronkwo’s exquisite freekick gave Nigeria the lead in the 40th minute.

The Super Falcons maintained their lead in the second half, with Oshoala scoring again in the 58th minute on a goal-mouth scramble to make it 2-0. The Haitians scored in the 75th minute when the Nigerian defenders failed to clear their lines, but the Super Falcons held on for the victory.

On April 11, the Nigerian team will face New Zealand in their next match.
