INEC Sets To Issue Certificates Of Return To Governors-elect, Others March 29 – 31

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the issuance of certificates of return to governors, deputy governors-elect, and state Houses of Assembly members-elect for the three-day period March 29 to March 31, 2023.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Barrister Festus Okoye, made the announcement in a statement issued in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Saturday.

“Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 requires the Commission to issue a certificate of return to every candidate who has been returned elected under the law within 14 days,” Okoye stated.

He explained further: “In accordance with the provision, the Commission has scheduled the issuance of Certificates of Return to those elected on March 18 for Wednesday, March 29, Thursday, March 30, and Friday, March 31.”

According to him, the presentation will take place in INEC offices nationwide.

He added that specific dates for the issuance of certificates would be conveyed to the elected persons by the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) and Administrative Secretaries of the various states.
