Protesters on Thursday stormed the national secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja, demanding clarification over allegations that N100 million was disbursed in connection with the recent Federal Capital Territory (FCT) election.
The demonstrators said their action was driven by growing public interest in claims that the party may have deployed the funds for election-related activities, stressing that they were seeking transparency rather than making accusations.
At the protest, convener of Advocate for Women in Governance, Amaka Christian, told journalists that the group wanted a clear and public response from the party on the matter.
“We are here this afternoon for a simple mission: to ask the national leadership of ADC if it’s true they disbursed N100 million to cover costs for the just-concluded election in FCT. We just want the truth; if it’s true, we’d like to know. The allegation has been made publicly, and it is important for the ADC to either confirm or deny it,” she said.
Christian added that the group would determine its next line of action based on the party’s response.
Responding on behalf of the party, Deputy National Publicity Secretary (New Media), Queen Okiyi, described the allegation as a rumour, urging members of the public to remain calm.
“We urge everyone to remain calm regarding the allegations about a Senator name withheld. This is currently a rumour, and the party will address it,” she said.
Okiyi also cautioned against statements that could create divisions within the party, noting that the ADC remains focused on unity as political activities gradually build up towards the 2027 general elections.
“The party has the interests of women at heart, and we’d like everyone to avoid divisive rhetoric. We will provide the necessary responses, so let’s stay united and focus on making ADC victorious in 2027,” she added.
