Former Nigerian petroleum resources minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, was captured in a video as she stormed out of Southwark Crown Court on Monday as her bribery and corruption trial resumed following a scheduled one-week break.
Alison-Madueke dressed in a blue trouser suit, sat motionless in the dock while British prosecutor Alexandra Heal presented pages of emails, text messages, and other documentary evidence to the court.
According to SaharaReporters, the embattled former OPEC President appeared visibly shaken when the prosecutor requested audio equipment to play a recording of a conversation between her and Olajide Omokore.
As she exited the court, a bystander asked Alison-Madueke how she felt about “corrupting Nigeria.” She did not respond and walked past without a word, entering a waiting Mercedes-Benz saloon car.
Born 6 December 1960, she was appointed Nigeria’s minister of transportation, then she was moved to Mines and Steel Development in 2008, and in April 2010 was appointed as the first female Minister of Petroleum Resources in Nigeria.
She was also elected the first female OPEC president at the 166th OPEC Ordinary meeting in Vienna on 27 November 2014.
