Governor-elect Ahmad Aliyu has formed a 108-member transition committee to oversee the transition of power in Sokoto.

The committee is chaired by Abubakar Sani, while the deputy chairman is Deputy Governor-elect Idris Danchadi. The first and second vice-chairmen are Chiso Dattijo and Sahabi Gada, respectively.

Lawali Margai, Abubakar Wurno, Bature Shinkafi, Isa Sadiq-Achida, Musa Maitafsir, Nagwari Tambuwal, Kulu Haruna, Hadiza Shagari, and Rabi Tudun-Wada are among the prominent members.

Mr Aliyu, who addressed the ceremony on Tuesday in Sokoto, said the inauguration was an important step toward ensuring a smooth transition of power.

“The committee faces a difficult assignment. ”I am convinced they will discharge their tasks efficiently because of the broad makeup of members with various expertise and pedigree,” the governor-elect added.

He charged the group with researching his nine-point agenda and developing an execution plan. The agenda’s nine points include security, religious affairs promotion, education, healthcare delivery, water supply, economic, agriculture, women and youth empowerment, and local government autonomy.

“The committee is expected to prepare a roadmap for implementing the manifesto of the incoming government based on collated campaign promises,” the governor-elect remarked. “This agenda will have to be implemented in the short, medium, and long terms.”

Mr Aliyu urged all committee members to do their absolute best to complete the task ahead.

Mr Sani commended the governor-elect for his faith in the committee members in his acceptance address. He welcomed the opportunity as a wonderful gift and told committee members that they would work together to complete the task.

Mr Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 453,661 votes, defeating his closest rival Sa’idu Umar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 404,632 votes.
